Lail Named Sun Belt Pitcher Of Week

DENTON, Texas (4/13/09) Ashley Lail was named the Sun Belt Conference’s Pitcher of the Week after recording a no-hitter against Troy and leading the North Texas softball team to a sweep against the Trojans.
Lail pitched a two-hit shutout and recorded her second no-hitter this season against Troy. The junior went 2-0 in two starts against Troy this past weekend. In the two wins, Lail posted an ERA of 0.00 in 14 innings of work.
In the opening game of the series, Lail allowed just two hits in the 3-0 win. She struck out six and walked two. The junior bettered that performance the following day with a no-hitter in the 6-0 win. She allowed no runs, no hits and zero walks. Two Trojans reached base on errors.
Lail is 10-7 overall this season, one win shy of tying a career best. She lowered her ERA to 1.22, which ranks fourth in the Sun Belt Conference. This is the first weekly conference award for Lail and the third this season for North Texas. The three weekly honors are the most recognition North Texas has received from the Sun Belt in a single season.
The Mean Green is 24-18 overall and 10-7 in the Sun Belt. With the 10 conference wins, NT ties the school record for most Sun Belt wins in a single season. The 24 wins is the second-most wins in school history and is three shy of tying the school record. With the three-game sweep of first-place Troy, the Mean Green moved into third place in the conference standings behind Troy and Western Kentucky University.
North Texas returns home on Wednesday, April 15 with a doubleheader against Louisiana Tech at 2 pm.
