Mean Green Softball Looks To Extend Winning Streak Today

DENTON, Texas (4/15/09) - The North Texas softball team looks to keep its five-game winning streak alive with a doubleheader today against Louisiana Tech. The first pitch is set for 2 pm at Lovelace Stadium.
The Mean Green is off to its best start in school history with a 24-18 mark. The 24 wins is the second most in school history. NT is three wins shy of tying the school record for wins in a single season. NT also tied the school record for conference wins with 10. With the three conference wins this past weekend, North Texas moved up to fourth place in the conference standings.
North Texas is 4-2 in the series against Louisiana Tech. Last year, NT split a road doubleheader against the Techsters.
The Mean Green swept first-place Troy this past week, winning all three games. North Texas has not swept a conference opponent since 2007 when the Mean Green defeated ULM three times. Prior to this past weekend, North Texas had not swept a doubleheader against Troy, much less a three-game series. North Texas trails the series against Troy, 9-7, but has won the last four meetings.
Ashley Lail pitched her second no-hitter of the season this past weekend against Troy. In the third game, Lail allowed no runs, no hits and no walks in the 6-0 win. Only two Trojans reached base on errors. She went 2-0 against Troy with an ERA of 0.00. In the 3-0 win, Lail allowed just two hits. Overall, Lail lowered her ERA to 1.22 and is one win shy of tying a career best. She is currently 10-7 with four
Ashley Lail received her first recognition from the Sun Belt, being named Pitcher of the Week. It is the first weekly honor for Lail and the third this season for North Texas. The three weekly honors is the most recognition that the Mean Green has received in a single season.
