Louisiana Tech Sweeps Mean Green Softball

DENTON, Texas (4/15/09) Kylie Bassett and Jessica Kirby each knocked in five runs to lead the Louisiana Tech softball team to a doubleheader sweep against North Texas on Wednesday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium. The Lady Techsters won by scores of 10-2 and 7-4.
The Lady Techsters (23-18) snapped the Mean Green’s five-game winning streak. NT falls to 24-20 overall.
Bassett and Kirby both knocked in four runs in the opening win. Bassett went 3-for-3 with a double and a home run, while Kirby went 2-for-4 with a home run. Megan Krieg took the win for Louisiana Tech, allowing two runs off six hits in six innings of work.
Courtney Bradshaw went 3-for-3 in the first game for the Mean Green. Caitlin Grimes knocked in NT’s only two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The two-RBI single tied the game at 2-2. Jennifer Smith took the loss in the first game for the Mean Green.
The Mean Green outhit the Lady Techsters in the second game, 12-8, but left nine runners on base. Sarah Jones went 3-for-4 in the game for NT with a two-run homer. Jones and Lisa Johnson combined for six of NT’s 12 hits in the game. Kayla Lawson took the loss despite striking out eight batters.
Three Lady Techsters hit home runs in their second win of the day.
North Texas returns to conference play this weekend when it travels to Bowling Green, KY to face Western Kentucky University. The Sunday game has been moved to Friday due to impending bad weather. The Mean Green will start action on Friday, April 17 at 6 pm. The two teams will conclude play with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 pm.
