Mean Green Softball Opens Conference Series With Loss

Bowling Green, Ky. (4/17/09) Ryan Rogge held the Mean Green to three hits to lead the Western Kentucky University softball team to a 4-1 win against North Texas on Friday night at the WKU Softball Field.
The Mean Green drops its third straight, falling to 24-21 overall. NT is now 10-8 in the Sun Belt. The Hilltoppers improve to 25-12 overall and 9-4 in the conference.
The WKU offense had one big inning, but it was enough to take the victory. Rogge won her 19th game, holding the Mean Green offense to one run on three hits. She struck out five batters but was able to force groundouts and pop flies from the Mean Green.
Ashley Lail took the loss for the Mean Green, falling to 10-8. She allowed four runs on six hits. Five of the six hits were contained to that third inning. The Hilltoppers scored all four runs in the third inning.
The Mean Green had opportunities to score at the start of the game. Megan Rupp led off the game with a single and was advanced to third on two sacrifice bunts. She was left stranded on third after Rogge forced a fly out. NT also put base runners on in the second and fifth innings but was unable to come up with the clutch hit.
Courtney Bradshaw continued her hot hitting with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, April 18 with a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.
