Mean Green Hosts No. 23 Ragin' Cajuns This Weekend

DENTON, Texas (4/24/09) - The North Texas softball team hosts No. 23 Louisiana-Lafayette this weekend in its final conference series of the regular season. The Mean Green is 11-9 in the Sun Belt, while ULL sits in first with a record of 13-5.The Saturday starts at 2 pm.
NTTV, the Mean Green student television station will broadcast Saturday's doubleheader. The broadcast will be streamed on meangreensports.com and televised in the local area. All three games can be heard on KNTU (88.1 FM), NT's student radio station.
NT is 1-19 all-time against the Ragin’ Cajuns. The only win against ULL came during the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Tournament. With the 7-3 loss to OU, NT is now 0-2 this year against nationally-ranked teams.
On Saturday, North Texas will honor its four seniors: Jennifer and Jessica Lynn, Sarah Jones and Kadie Platt. Jennifer and Jessica Lynn joined the Mean Green for their senior seasons and have contributed as pinch runners and pinch hitters. Jones and Platt have been four-year starters for the Mean Green and both have made their senior seasons the best of their careers. Platt is ranked No. 3 in runs scored at North Texas and tied for fifth in career home runs. Jones is third in career hits, fourth in career doubles, fifth in RBI and fourth in total bases.
The Mean Green posted two home runs against Oklahoma, setting a record for most home runs in a single season with 46. North Texas tied the record against WKU and then set the record with a Kadie Platt home run against OU. Rebecca Waters added to the record with her third home run of the season. Eleven players this season contributed to the record. The 2007 team held the previous record of 44 home runs, while last year’s squad came up just short at 43. Every team since 2006 has recorded at least 42 home runs in a single season.
For the second straight year, North Texas hosted a Play For Kay Day game on Wednesday against Oklahoma. Through t-shirt sales and donations at the gate, the Mean Green raised $1500 for the Leukemia Society. The Mean Green raised $1400 for the Cancer Society on March 17th during its Strikeout Cancer Game.
