Mean Green Softball Falls To No. 23 Ragin' Cajuns

DENTON, Texas (4/25/09) Donna Bourgeois picked up two wins in the circle to lead the No. 23 Louisiana-Lafayette softball team to a doubleheader sweep against North Texas on Saturday afternoon at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green was shut out in the first game, 10-0, and was run-ruled in the second game, 11-2.
The Mean Green falls to 25-25 overall and 11-11 in the Sun Belt, while the Ragin’ Cajuns improve to 34-10 and 15-5 in the conference. ULL leads the all-time series against NT, 21-1.
Bourgeois pitched a six-inning shutout in the first game for ULL, allowing just two Mean Green hits. North Texas held the Ragin’ Cajuns to three runs through six innings but gave up seven runs in the seventh inning. The ULL pitcher allowed two runs in the second game, but shut out the Mean Green the rest of the way. ULL scored nine runs in the fifth inning to seal the doubleheader sweep with a run-rule.
North Texas took a 2-1 lead in the second inning after a Caitlin Grimes RBI single and a fielder’s choice by Kadie Platt that scored the second run. ULL tied the game in the fourth off a solo home run and then took the lead with another home run to start off the fifth.
Ashley Lail took the loss in the first game, falling to 10-10 overall. She held ULL to three runs through six innings but gave up seven runs on eight hits in the seventh inning. Kayla Lawson took the loss in the second game. She held the Ragin’ Cajuns to two runs through four innings before giving up eight runs in the fifth.
North Texas returns to action on Sunday, April 26 when it finishes up the conference series with Louisiana-Lafayette at 12 pm.
