The 2009 team won its 20th victory in 38 games this season. The next milestone is eclipsing the 27 wins the 2008 team recorded. The 27 wins is the most wins in school history in a single season.
NT is 2-2 against Texas Tech (13-29) in the all-time series. The Mean Green has won the last two games against the Red Raiders. Mallory Cantler knocked in the game-winning run last year at home, giving NT a 4-3 win. In 2007, Katya Muller posted four hits and Susan Waters hit a three-run homer to lead NT to a 4-1 win. Ashley Lail picked up her eighth win of the season against Texas Tech in 2007.
The Mean Green is ranked in several categories in the NCAA national statistics. The Mean Green is also ranked 80th in slugging percentage, 62nd in stolen bases per game, 64th in ERA and 86th in doubles. Individually, Ashley Lail is ranked 40th in lowest ERA (1.38).
Jennifer Smith’s home run in the 6-2 loss to FIU had special significance. The sophomore’s home run was the 200th home run in school history. In the six years of the program’s existence, North Texas has compiled 202 home runs. North Texas has hit at least 42 home runs each year since 2006 and the current team is on pace to continue that trend.
With NT’s four stolen bases against Middle Tennessee in the three-game series, the Mean Green eclipsed the 200 stolen base mark in team history. North Texas currently has stolen 203 stolen bases in five-plus years. Next milestone? 400 doubles. Currently, the Mean Green has posted 380 doubles in team history. The 2009 team has recorded 46 doubles, which is 32 shy of the team school record set last year.
