Mean Green Softball Team Opens Season Today

Nacogdoches, Texas (2/17/10) - The North Texas softball team will open its season this afternoon in a doubleheader against Stephen F. Austin on the road at 2 p.m. The Mean Green had its season opener delayed almost a week because of the snow that hit the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The Mean Green is 4-2 in season-opening games and 3-2 in opening games on the road. NT is 6-4 in the series against the Ladyjacks, including splitting a doubleheader last year at home. SFA went 0-4 last weekend at the Mississippi State Bulldog Round Robin.
North Texas is returning all but two starters to the 2010 squad. For the first time in school history, North Texas has two senior pitchers on its roster. Seniors Ashley Lail and Kayla Lawson will finish their Mean Green careers in 2010. Mallory Cantler and Mariza Martinez were named to the preseason All-Sun Belt team for the first time in their careers.
