Cantler, Johnson And Martinez Named To All-Tournament Team

DENTON, Texas (2/23/10) - North Texas softball players' Mallory Cantler, Lisa Johnson and Mariza Martinez were all named to the Sleep Inn Classic All-Tournament Team. The Mean Green went 1-3 in this past weekend's home tournament.
North Texas and Arkansas both led the way with a tournament-high three players on the all-tournament team. The Mean Green led the tournament offensively, hitting .317 as a team. Cantler and Martinez tied for a tournament best with seven hits each.
Cantler hit .467 in the two-day tournament, tying for fifth in the tournament. Two of her seven hits were doubles, and the first baseman knocked in two runs in the four games. Cantler started to get hot in the second day of action, posting five hits in the last two games. She went 3-for-4 in the loss to Colorado State and 2-for-4 against Buffalo.
Johnson started all four games at second base and hit .400 in the tournament. Two of her four hits were for extra bases, and she knocked in three RBI. She led the tournament with seven walks. In the win against Arkansas, the second baseman went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Johnson added to the Mean Green's 3-1 lead against the Razorbacks with a two-run homer in the fifth. She leads the team with two home runs.
Martinez continued her hot hitting at the Sleep Inn Classic. She batted .412 in the tournament with seven hits and three RBI. The centerfielder went 3-for-4 in the loss to Drake. She leads the starters on the Mean Green with a .458 batting average, 11 hits and three doubles.
North Texas is 2-4 this season and returns to action on Friday, Feb. 26 when it faces UC-Riverside in the UTSA Tournament in San Antonio, Texas.
