Softball Comes Up Short Against Troy

Troy, Ala. (4/16/10) - The North Texas softball team came up short in a 2-1 loss to Troy on Friday night at the Trojan Softball Complex.
The Mean Green falls to 21-14 and 7-6 in the Sun Belt, while Troy improves to 21-20 and 9-7 in the conference.
The first game of the series featured a pitching duel between Ashlyn Williams and Ashley Lail. Williams came up the winner, picking up her 17th win of the season. She allowed one run off three hits. Lail falls to 10-5 despite allowing just two runs off three hits. Both of the runs were unearned.
The game came down to the sixth inning. The Mean Green scored first, but the Trojans picked up two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.
The Mean Green scored the first run in the sixth inning off a Trojan error. With runners on first and second, Megan Rupp posted a single to the outfield. The leftfielder misplayed the ball, allowing Mariza Martinez to score from second.
The Trojans scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead. The Mean Green made two fielding errors, allowing two runs to score.
The Mean Green was unable to respond in the top of the seventh, going down in order. NT left five runners stranded on base. Martinez posted two of the Mean Green's three hits.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, April 17 in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm
