Middle Tennessee Is Up Next For Softball On Saturday

DENTON, Texas (4/9/10) - The North Texas softball team is back home for a conference series this weekend against Middle Tennessee. The Mean Green plays a doubleheader on Saturday at Lovelace Stadium beginning at 2 p.m.
The Mean Green (17-12, 5-4 Sun Belt) is playing its best softball of the season, winning four of its last five games. On Wednesday, North Texas swept No. 24 Baylor in a doubleheader. NT is 3-2 against nationally-ranked teams this year.
Middle Tennessee is 13-17 and 4-8 this season and is last in the Sun Belt standings, but the Blue Raiders picked up a win this past week against conference leader Louisiana-Lafayette. North Texas, who is tied for second in the standings, is 9-12 in the all-time series against MT, and has lost five of the last six conference series to the Blue Raiders.
Mallory Cantler knocked in seven RBI in the two games against Baylor. She leads the team with a .378 batting average, which is fourth among the Sun Belt Conference leaders. Lisa Johnson is right behind her with a .376 average, ranking her sixth in the conference. She leads the team and is tied for second in the conference with eight home runs.
Mariza Martinez is one of the hottest players coming into this weekend. In the last five games, she leads the Mean Green with a .556 batting average and 10 hits. Four of those hits are for extra bases. Lesley Hirsch is also on fire. She has posted seven hits in the last five games, including her first two career doubles.
North Texas is tied for its best start in school history with a 17-12 mark.
