Williams Throws No-Hitter Against Mean Green Softball

Mobile, Ala. (5/12/10) - Ashlyn Williams pitched a no-hitter to lead the Troy Trojans to an 8-0 run-rule win against the North Texas softball team on Wednesday morning in first-round action at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at Jaguar Field.
The No. 3 Mean Green falls to 27-19 overall and will face either No. 2 FIU or No. 7 ULM on Thursday, May 13 at 10 a.m. in an elimination game.
Williams held the Mean Green hitless in six innings of work. She struck out 14 Mean Green batters and walked one. Ashley Lail (12-9) took the loss for North Texas, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing five runs off five hits.
Troy struck early, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning. With runners on second and third, Belinda White hit a ball to right center field for a double that scored both runs.
Hayden Gann added to the score with a three-run homer in the third inning to put Troy ahead, 5-0.
Rocky Paige hit the second home run of the game in the fifth inning, sending a long ball over the left field fence to put Troy ahead, 7-0.
Troy sealed the win with a RBI single by Sarah Shields in the sixth inning, scoring the Trojan's eighth and final run.
North Texas is 0-2 against Troy in first round games of the conference tournament and 9-11 overall in the series against Troy.
