Softball Sweeps Conference Series

Murfreesboro, Tenn. (4/21/13) – The North Texas softball team swept the conference series against Middle Tennessee with a 10-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Blue Raider Field.
The Mean Green improves to 22-20 overall and 9-9 in the conference, while the Blue Raiders fall to 5-41 and 1-18 in the Sun Belt. North Texas swept the series behind three wins.
The Mean Green posted a season high with 15 hits in the win. The offense exploded for six runs in the sixth inning behind a grand slam by Brooke Foster. The game ended in the sixth on a run-rule.
Brittany Simmons (8-8) pitched a four-inning shutout. She allowed one hit in four innings of work. Lauren Poole pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs off two hits.
Bryana Wade and Karly Williams both plated runs in the second inning to put North Texas ahead, 2-0. Willliams scored off an error to add to the score. Jordan Terry made it 4-0 with an RBI single in the fifth.
After Middle Tennessee scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Mean Green offense exploded for six runs in the sixth inning. Foster hit her first career grand slam, and Taylor Schoblocher tied for the team lead with her seventh home run.
Dani Hoff also posted a double in the sixth, her 13th of the season. The 13 doubles is tied for the third most in a single season at North Texas. The record is 16.
Six players posted multiple hits in the victory. Foster led the Mean Green this past weekend with a .611 batting average and four RBI.
North Texas returns to action when it faces No. 1 Oklahoma on Tuesday, April 23 at 4 p.m.
