Softball Announces 2019 Schedule

DENTON – North Texas softball announced its 2019 schedule featuring 16 home games at Lovelace Field.

The Mean Green will open the season on Feb. 8 with two games in College Station against the Northern Colorado at 10 a.m. and Cal Baptist at 12:15 p.m. North Texas will play another doubleheader the next day against No. 14 Texas A&M at 3 p.m. and another match with Cal Baptist at 5:15 p.m.

The season will end at home against Middle Tennessee State University with a weekend series May 4-5.

North Texas will face three teams ranked in the 2018 USA Today NFCA Coaches Poll top 25 in No. 14 A&M, a road game against No. 16 Baylor on Feb. 22, and a home game against No. 4 Oklahoma on March 20. The Mean Green will face five teams ranked in the top 50 in RPI.

"I think the toughness will prepare us," head coach Rodney Delong said. "I like the preparation aspect. It will show us where we're at. I don't think it will hinder us in any way."

There will be 12 Conference USA games at Lovelace Stadium against Southern Mississippi, UTEP, UTSA and Middle Tennessee.

The Mean Green will pay visits to Louisiana Tech, Florida International, Western Kentucky and the UAB in conference play. North Texas will face Texas schools 13 times, including a home-away series with Abilene Christian.

North Texas will face UTA three times in less than seven days with a game in Arlington on Feb. 27 and in Lubbock on March 1-2. While in Lubbock the Mean Green will also face Texas Tech on March 1-2.
"If we do well it will help our RPI, and help us get in the NCAA Tournament," Delong said. "If we want to build this the way we want to build it, to be a perennial NCAA Tournament team, we have to be able to beat teams like that."
