Softball Lands JUCO Standout Kenzie Young

DENTON – The signing class for first-year head coach Rodney DeLong continues to grow.

The Mean Green landed Butler Community College standout Kenzie Young from Derby, Kans. Young briefly spent time at Ole Miss over the summer before ending up in Denton. Young earned her associate's degree from Butler. The 5-4 right-handed outfielder will be a junior with two years of eligibility left.
"We are excited about Kenzie joining our program," DeLong said. "It's always good when you can add an All-American to your roster. She is a talented outfielder with a lot of pop at the dish. She is a good kid who will be great for our culture."Â

Young was the third player in Butler history to be named an NJCAA All-America twice. In her sophomore season, she hit .488 while smashing 14 home runs and adding 60 RBI despite her season ending early in the final conference game of the season due to injury. She led Butler CC in five offensive categories.

After a massive freshman season, Young finished as the Grizzlies' career leader in triples (13) and runs (158). She finished top 10 in home runs (22, 10th), RBI (131, fourth), hits (ninth), stolen bases (63, fifth) and batting average (.468, third).
