SAN ANTONIO – The Mean Green golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the 2018-19 season on Tuesday by shooting a 9-over par 297 in the second and final round of the UT San Antonio Lone Star Invitational at the TPC San Antonio Oaks Course.
UNT finished the tournament, which was cut from three to two rounds after a lengthy rain delay Monday, in ninth place at 24-over par after a first-round 303 on Monday.
Host UT San Antonio won the tournament at 2-over par, two shots ahead of Arkansas State. UNT finished one shot behind another Conference USA foe in Rice, while UTEP rounded out the C-USA contingent and finished in last place.
UNT was led by senior Thomas Rosenmueller, who shot a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday to finish the tournament in a tie for eighth place at 1-over par, while sophomore Viktor Forslund finished in a tie for 10th at 2-over par after shooting a final round 73. Senior Jordan Sanders, competing as an individual, finished tied for 20th at 4-over par for the tournament. UNT will return to action at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas on Sept. 23-25. The Mean Green finished tied for sixth in the event a year ago.
"Thomas, Viktor and Jordan played solid this week," UNT coach Brad Stracke said. "I'm really happy with how these three played. Overall, we have a lot of areas to improve upon going into Trinity Forest. We will enjoy the process of improving each day until our next opportunity at Trinity Forest."
