TULSA, Okla. – While the 2020 signing class won't officially join the Mean Green softball program until summer 2020, one of the incoming student-athletes is making headlines in her home state as Mikayla Smith will be named a recipient of the prestigious Michelle Smith Award.
Â
Smith, a right-handed infielder form Moore, Oklahoma joins four other high school seniors who garner the award as the top-5 high school softball players in the state of Oklahoma.
Â
"This award is a perfect representation of Mikayla," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "She is a talented softball player and an outstanding young woman. We are really excited for her."
Â
The award is named in honor of former U.S. Olympic softball player Michelle Smith, who won two gold medals while playing for the United States in the 1996 and 2000 summer games. Smith, a graduate of Oklahoma State University was inducted into the ASA Softball Hall of Fame in 2006.
Â
