HUMBLE, Texas – The North Texas men's golf team kicked off its spring season on Sunday in the first round of The All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston.
The team stumbled to a first-round score of 295 and sits 7-over par in a tie for 10th place after one round with two more rounds set for Monday and Tuesday.
Freshman Lenny Bergsson led the way for the Mean Green, shooting an even-par 72 to put himself in a tie for 16th on the individual leaderboard and tied with senior Jordan Sanders for a team-best four birdies on the day.
"Lenny had a great back nine," UNT coach Brad Stracke said. "It was nice to see him fight back after a difficult front side."
Sophomore Viktor Forslund followed Bergsson with a 1-over 73 and is currently tied for 25th place.
The Mean Green will begin Round 2 from Hole 10 on Monday at 8 a.m., and will be paired with UT Arlington and McNeese State.
"All the guys played OK today, but we were missing the two great rounds that would have made a huge difference," Stracke said. "If we produce two low rounds tomorrow, we will be in contention."
