IRVING – After a dominating first two weekends of 2019, sophomore Pitcher Hope Trautwein was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week for her performance in the Mean Green Classic.
Trautwein appeared in three games for North Texas with one start in a 14-2 win over Seton Hall. In her lone start, the Pflugerville-native allowed just one hit, two runs while striking out six. She then followed up with a 5.0 innings relief appearance against Creighton in a 7-3 win. She struck six across her run-less and hitless appearance. Trautwein capped off the weekend with another 4.0 innings of hitless and run-less softball in a 6-0 win over Northwestern State to secure a perfect 4-0 home start for North Texas. The Mean Green improved to 8-1 after sweeping the Mean Green Classic.
"Hope had a solid weekend," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "She really commanded the zone. She took control of every game she threw in."
Trautwein is the team-leader in wins, ERA and appearances. In three starts and seven appearances, she has pitched 33.1 innings, allowing just six runs on 11 hits while striking out a conference-leading 46. Her 0.54 ERA is the lowest in Conference-USA. Opponents are hitting a staggering .100 against the right-hander.
"Hope has been great to work with from day one," pitching coach Jamie Allred said. "She comes in the pen everyday with a great attitude determined to get a little bit better. She's made a ton of adjustments, and I'm pumped to see her work paying off."
The Mean Green hit the road for a second away tournament. North Texas travels to Waco to face Kent State, No. 16 Baylor and the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in the Baylor Invitational. Action begins at 10 a.m. Friday against Kent State.
