Sanders In Striking Distance In Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Mean Green golf team opened up play at the N.I.T., on Monday as part of a loaded field featuring six top-50 teams nationally, including three in the top 10 of the GolfStat poll.
North Texas came out of the gates red-hot and was in first place two-thirds of the way through the opening round and now sit in 13th place after the completion of 36 holes on Monday. UNT shot a first-round 284 before a 297 in the second round.
Senior Jordan Sanders led the way for North Texas through the first two rounds, as he is tied for sixth place at 9-under par, thanks to 12 birdies on the day – six in each round. Sanders' first-round 67 tied his best score of the year. Sanders is ahead of 10 nationally ranked golfers.
"I had the pleasure of watching Jordan play 36 holes today," UNT coach Brad Stracke said. "His distance control, putting and short game were on point today."
Freshman Henri Renouard fired a first-round 69 to set a new career-low round and is tied for 46th at 1-over after two rounds.
The Mean Green will begin Round 3 at 10 a.m. CT, Tuesday with a shotgun start and will be paired with Utah, while Sanders will be paired with golfers from Utah, Colorado and San Diego.
