TUCSON, Ariz. – Jordan Sanders finished off a great two days and turned in what his coach called his breakthrough performance on Tuesday when the senior shot a 3-under 69 to follow up a 67 and 68 on Monday, finishing fourth on the leaderboard at the N.I.T. at the OMNI Tucson National.
Sanders, who finished the tournament 12-under par, had 17 birdies over the three rounds with just two bogeys and one double-bogey and was one of only two golfers in the field to shoot three rounds in the 60s.
"Jordan had a breakout performance this week," UNT coach Brad Stracke said. "Finishing fourth in this field should give Jordan a lot of confidence going into (TPC Sawgrass) next week."
North Texas climbed three spots on the leaderboard Tuesday to finish tied for 10th place in a field that featured six top-50 teams and three ranked in the top 10.
Sophomore Viktor Forslund shot a 4-under 68 to finish the tournament at 2-under par and tied for 30th. Freshman Lenny Bergsson shot a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to help his team move up the leaderboard.
"Viktor and Lenny both had solid rounds today," Stracke said. "We are trying to improve each day and get ready for the conference championship next month."
UNT will return to action March 31-April 1 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, to compete in The Hayt Invitational.
