DALLAS - After playing a key role in capturing the softball program's first conference championship, sophomore Hope Trautwein was named the Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week.
Â
Trautwein appeared in all three games of the Middle Tennessee series with two starts. In her first start of the weekend, Trautwein tossed a complete game shutout while only surrendering one hit and striking out six. She followed that performance with 2.2 innings of relief in game two, allowing one hit and adding a strikeout to her season total. The Pflugerville native concluded the weekend by tossing another complete game in the regular-season title clincher Sunday, striking out five and only giving up one earned run.
Â
"Hope has been consistent for us all year long," assistant and pitching coach Jamie Allred said. "She has only gotten better down the stretch. This past weekend she was an absolute bulldog in the circle for us, and carried us when we struggled offensively."
Â
Trautwein is the team leader in all pitching categories and will look to continue her dominant season as the Mean Green set off for the Air Force Reserve Conference USA Softball Championship in Birmingham, Alabama, starting Wednesday. North Texas enters as the number one seed and will start tournament action on Thursday.
Â
This is Trautwein's third time to win the award this season, making her one of only two pitchers in C-USA to do so. She was named the Pitcher of the Week in back-to-back weeks in weeks two and three.
