Trautwein Named Preseason Pitcher of The Year

DALLAS – Hope Trautwein has been tabbed as the 2020 Conference USA preseason Pitcher of the Year, and Katie Clark and Lacy Gregory joined her on the preseason all-conference team, the league office announced Wednesday.

All three are making at least their second appearance on the preseason All-Conference team with Gregory making her third. North Texas joins Marshall as the schools with the most preseason all-conference selections with three apiece.

The junior ace earned the honor after the 2019 campaign that saw her be named first team all-conference after she posted a 22-7 record, a 2.82 ERA, 169 strikeouts and held opponents to a .187 average.

Trautwein is the first player in program history to be named the preseason pitcher of the year and also earned a spot on the preseason all-conference team.

Clark and Gregory also earned preseason all-conference nods. Clark was named first team all-conference in 2019 after leading the Mean Green with a .404 average. The senior missed 10 games due to injury but was still able to lead the team with 59 hits and 15 stolen bases in 15 attempts.

Gregory earned All-Region honors in 2019 after starting all 54 games and hitting .319 with 43 RBI and five home runs. The Kingwood native posted a .917 fielding percentage and slugged at a .509 clip, she also led the team in doubles with 14.

The Mean Green open the season on February 7^th when they take on Prairie View A&M in the McNeese State Cowgirl Classic. North Texas will open its home slate with a matchup with Creighton on February 14 in the night cap of day one of the North Texas Invitational. Tickets for the tournament and all Mean Green home games are currently on sale.
