WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – After a rough second round of play on Monday's 36-hole opening day at the Southwestern Invitational, the North Texas men's golf team rebounded on Tuesday to have its best round of the tournament with a 294, leaving the opening tournament of the spring schedule with a 10th-place showing.
Freshman Zak Karkaletsos led the way on Tuesday with a 2-under 70, including an eagle on the Par-5 15th hole. He led the Mean Green with a T-33rd overall finish. Junior Viktor Forslund was UNT's second-best finisher, as he tied for 44th. Redshirt junior Kristof Ulenaers shot a 1-under 71 to close the tournament and finished tied for 53rd.
"We played well two out of the three rounds this tournament," UNT head coach Brad Stracke said. "Zak and Kristof hit the ball flawlessly today. The team had it going early today, which shows a lot of character bouncing back after our second round."
The team will resume competition at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, hosted by Wyoming, in Palm Desert, California, Feb. 21-23.
