Men's Golf In Fifth After Day 1

PALM DESERT, Calif. – The North Texas men's golf team began play at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Friday and shot an opening round 286 at the Classic Club to sit at 2-under par in fifth place out of 21 teams with two rounds to play.
Junior Viktor Forslund led the way for the Mean Green with an opening-round 69, thanks to four birdies and just one bogey. He is tied for eighth place at 3-under par. Redshirt junior Kristof Ulenaers led the team with six birdies on the day and is tied for 20th at 1-under. Freshman Alejandro Madariaga shot an even-par 72 is tied for 30th.
"We had a solid start today," UNT head coach Brad Stracke said. "I was proud of how the guys fought through some adversity in the middle of the round."
The Mean Green will be paired with Boise State and Cal State Northridge on Saturday.
