CARROLLTON – The UNT men's golf team matched their opening-round score of 12-over-par 300 in Tuesday's third and final round to finish in sixth place out of 12 teams that made up a loaded field for the Mean Green's lone fall event of the year at their home golf course, the Maridoe Golf Club.
The Mean Green finished 34-over par for the tournament - eight shots back of fifth-place Texas.
The Mean Green were led by a pair of freshmen countrymen, as Vicente Marzilio and Diego Prone, both from Argentina, finished tied for 17th and tied for 21st, respectively, as the Mean Green's top two individual finishers in their collegiate debuts. Junior Lenny Bergsson finished tied for 26th after his team-best 1-over 73 in the final round.
"I feel great about how the guys competed this week," UNT head coach Brad Stracke said. "Four of those teams we played against will most likely be in the top 5 (nationally) at the end of the year. I know my guys will gain a lot of confidence from their performance this week."
The first, and last, tournament of the fall schedule for the Mean Green featured a field loaded with top-notch programs, including the top four teams nationally in last season's final rankings, No. 10 Baylor and three other top-40 teams.
