Mean Green Fall at Home to SMU

DENTON – The North Texas swimming and diving team dropped their first home dual of the 2020-2021 season, falling to SMU 163-78 on Saturday morning.

The Mean Green were led by senior Leigh Faires McGee who picked up wins in both the 200-yard (1:52.23) and 500-yard (5:05.66) freestyles. The two wins brought the Jackson, Mississippi native to 30 career individual event wins.

Junior Jordan Gorham earned a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:43.85. Freshmen Tram Nguyen and Diana Kolb finished 3-4 in the 400-yard IM with times of 4:38.62 and 4:41.92 respectively while Sophomore London Farris (53.30) and junior Bryanna Vasquez (53.65) finished 2-3 in the 100-yard freestyle. Kolb finished off her day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.14.

On the boards the Mean Green notched a fourth-place finish from senior Meghan Miller in the one-meter dive with a score of 251.40 and a third-place finish in the three-meter dive from sophomore Saylor Hawkins with a personal best score of 272.40.

North Texas will shift their focus to their winter training session before their next dual in January. The Mean Green will host Conference USA foe Rice on January 8 for senior day.
