DALLAS – Following a weekend which saw North Texas go 4-1 with a win over no. 10 Louisiana, Hope Trautwein earned Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week honors for her contributions to the success, the league office announced Monday.
Â
Trautwein anchored the North Texas pitching staff who posted a 1.53 team ERA through the first weekend. The Mean Green arms held opponents to just a .177 batting average.
Â
The junior went 2-1 in three appearances which included a pair of starts, both being against McNeese State. She pitched a total of 11.1 innings, struck out 14 batters, gave up one earned run on just five hits, held opponents to a .128 batting average and posted an ERA of 0.62.
Â
On Friday night against McNeese State, Trautwein earned the start and simply dominated the McNeese lineup for 5.1 innings. She struck out 10 batters and gave up just one hit but was charged with the loss. She bounced back on Saturday coming out of the bullpen against no. 10 Louisiana.
Â
Out of the pen, Trautwein gave up a hit to the first batter she faced but went on to retire the next 11 batters who came to the plate and thanks to a seventh inning home run by Kourtney Williams she picked up her first win of the season.
Â
Trautwein and the rest of the North Texas softball team will be in action at home this weekend when they host the North Texas Invitational. The Mean Green will take on Creighton on Friday night at 7 p.m. to get their 2020 home slate started.
