As softball season approaches, North Texas will be playing as defending Conference champions for the first time in program history and coming out of the historic season the Mean Green will return 13 players from that championship roster. This is the final part of a three-part series detailing the returners and newcomers in each position group.
Â
North Texas will have its most experienced outfield in recent years return in 2020. The Mean Green return four players who all saw time as primary outfielders in 2019 including Preseason All-Conference team member Katie Clark.
Â
Clark, who was also named first team All-Conference USA in 2019 returns after leading the Mean Green in batting average (.404), hits (59), stolen bases (15), slugging percentage (.548) and fewest strikeouts (11). The senior had a sure glove in center field last year where she only committed one error throughout the entirety of the season.
Â
Also returning in 2020 after doing primary work in the outfield a season ago are three other seniors, Camille Grahmann, Hanna Rebar and Kenzie Young.
Â
Grahmann saw action in 31 games last season including 10 starts in the outfield. The shifty slap-hitter did not have many chances to make plays in games but what she did have helped her end the year with an .875 fielding percentage. Grahmann will be featured in left and right field.
Â
Hanna Rebar is back after tying for the team lead in home runs a season ago with seven. The San Antonio native will be featured mainly in right field but can be used all across the outfield. In 2019 Rebar became the first player in program history to hit three home runs in a single game on March 23 at LA Tech. In that game she set single-game career records for hits (3), home runs (3), RBI (6) and total bases (12).
Â
Kenzie Young is back and ready for year two in Denton. The Junior College transfer from Butler Community College saw her numbers dip in her first year at the Division I level but is back and ready to have a great senior. Young finished second on the team in steals with 10 last season and ranked fourth in walks after she drew 19 of them. She is also a player who can be interchanged across all three outfield spots.
Â
Two other players will also see time in the outfield, Tarah Hilton and Kourtney Williams. This group of six make up one of the most experienced outfields to date at North Texas and they will be back in action on Friday when the season gets underway at the Cowgirl Classic hosted by McNeese State.
