For a team to win a college softball game, they must score at least one more run than their opponents while working with normally 21 outs. If you fail to do so, then extra innings will be added on thus increasing your out total to work with and also the number of outs you must make. On February 21, 2020 junior pitcher Hope Trautwein decided to make 21 of the 24 outs needed for a Mean Green win by herself, the Pflugerville native struck out a career-high, program-high, Conference USA-high and NCAA season-high 21 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi hitters in the eight inning affair.

Not only did Trautwein shatter a number of single-game records both of her own and of the program, she became just the third pitcher in North Texas history to amass 400 career strikeouts. She had gone into the contest needing exactly 21 to reach 400 and well, she did just that.

The junior was also named Conference USA's co-Pitcher of the Week for her performance while being recognized on the NCAA Softball social media outlets. Her performance finished as the highest single-game strikeout total in the nation for the 2020 campaign and is being featured on D1Softball.com's 2020 Memorable Moment Madness on their social media channels, the performance has advanced to the "Super Regionals" and will take on a strikeout performance by a South Florida hurler with fan voting being available April 7-8.
