Trautwein Tabbed C-USA Pitcher of the Week

DENTON – Following a record-setting opening to the 2021 season senior Hope Trautwein has been named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The honor marks the eighth time in the right-handers'Â career that she has earned Pitcher or Co-Pitcher of the Week honors. She has also been named the conferences' preseason Pitcher of the Year the past two seasons.

Trautwein became just the third pitcher in Division I history to strike out 21 batters in a seven-inning game during her first start of the season, a complete-game victory over Southeastern Louisiana.  The strikeout total tied her career-best as well as her own program and Conference USA records for strikeouts in a single-game; she struck out 21 on February 21, 2020 at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi during an eight-inning game.

The win gives Trautwein 49 during her career, which gave her sole possession of second all-time in program history. It also marked her 101st appearance which moved her into a tie with Ashley Lail (2008-2010) for fifth all-time in career appearances.

North Texas was scheduled to head to Texas on Wednesday, but weather conditions have caused that game to be postponed. The Mean Green are scheduled to take part in the inagural Tracy Beard College Classic this coming weekend in Frisco.
