ATLANTA – The North Texas swimming and diving team has competed under one mantra the entirety of the 2020-2021 season; today, not tomorrow. They will put that belief on display when they head to the 2021 Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championships which are set to begin Thursday, February 25, at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
Â
The Mean Green enter the fifth conference championship meet under head coach Brittany Roth and are looking to improve on fifth-place team finish from a year ago. In 2020, North Texas accounted for 328 points and their only medal came in the 800 freestyle relay on night one. Leigh Faires McGee, Bryanna Vasquez, London Farris and Alvena Walpole clocked a 7:24.03 in route to a third-place finish and a spot on the podium.
Â
Competition will begin on Thursday with time trials and prelims in the morning before the first medals are up for grabs that night in the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 3-meter dive and 400 medley relay.
Â
North Texas will compete against six-time defending champion FIU, Florida Atlantic, Marshall, Old Dominion and Rice in Atlanta. FIU has built a dominating program since joining the league in 2015, a year ago they set a conference championship meet record with 1044.50 points scored.
Â
Conference USA will have live streams each day available on CUSA.tv (purchase required) as well as provide live stats and results. All that information and more can be found on MeanGreenSports.com and by following North Texas Swimming and Diving on Twitter (@MeanGreenSwim), Instagram (@meangreenswimdive) and by liking Mean Green Swimming and Diving on Facebook.
