STILLWATER, Okla. – North Texas was unable to find midweek success on Wednesday night, falling 5-0 to #9/10 Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Mean Green will have another midweek matchup before Conference USA play begins as they head to Abilene on Tuesday to take on Abilene Christian at 5 p.m.
The Mean Green were on the wrong side of a combined Perfect Game as a pair Cowgirl pitchers kept North Texas off the base paths, allowing no hits, issuing no walks and striking out nine batters. The lone fly out off a Mean Green bat came on the game's final out, other than that every out was recorded by strikeout or groundout with one soft liner mixed in.
"Tonight doesn't deter us from anything we're trying to accomplish," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "Oklahoma State is a great team, we just faced two great pitchers and we were overmatched. We have our eyes set on what we want to accomplish, we're going to go to work and get prepared for conference play next weekend."
North Texas starter GiGi Wall went 3.1 innings allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out three, Hope Trautwein threw 2.2 innings of relief in which she gave up two runs on three hits and struck out five with one walk.
Oklahoma State scored their first run in the opening frame after a pair of doubles sandwiched around a ground out. The Cowgirls would add two runs in the fourth on a pair of squeeze bunts before a two-out solo home run in the fifth and an RBI double in the sixth made it 5-0.
The Mean Green will travel to ACU before hosting UAB to open Conference USA play April 2-3 at Lovelace Stadium.
