DALLAS – Senior pitcher Hope Trautwein has been named to the Conference USA All-Academic team, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. Trautwein finished with a 4.0 GPA during her first semester of graduate work after earning her Bachelor Degree in Accounting in December 2020.
Â
To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes had to have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, be at least a sophomore in standing while competing in 60% of team games as a starter or key reserve.
Â
Trautwein has shined on the field for the Mean Green during her senior campaign, setting the single-season strikeout record with 220 and counting, tying the all-time career wins record with 60 and also eclipsing the 600 career strikeout mark, being just the second pitcher in program history to achieve the feat. The senior leads Conference USA in ERA (1.39) and strikeouts (220) and reached 200 strikeouts on the season before any other conference pitcher eclipsed the century mark. Trautwein currently has more individual strikeouts than seven other Conference USA teams.
Â
On April 11, Trautwein made national headlines after she tossed the first all-strikeout perfect game in NCAA Division I history, striking out every batter she faced on the road at Arkansas – Pine Bluff. Trautwein has been named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and has received the Commissioner's Academic Medal all three years she has been at UNT. She become the first North Texas softball All-Academic team member since her former backstop Nicole Ochotnicki earned the distinction in 2019.Â
Â
North Texas' postseason run will begin on Thursday, May 13 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Mean Green earned a double-bye into the double elimination portion of the 2021 Conference USA Championship after winning the regular season title outright. It is the second-consecutive tournament that the Mean Green have been the No. 1 overall seed.
