MGSB Adds Experienced Transfer Southpaw

DENTON — The 2021 Conference USA regular season champion North Texas softball team has signed Purdue transfer pitcher Ashley Peters.
The southpaw comes to the Mean Green with loads of experience under her belt. In two seasons with the Boilermakers, Peters made 39 appearance with 122.1 innings pitched. Her 27 appearances and 12 starts this past season led Purdue and she ended the season winning five of her last six appearances that included victories over Ohio State, Wisconsin and a 1-0 shutout over Northwestern.
Peters also has gotten it done in the classroom as she was named Academic All-Big Ten this past semester.
She'll join the Mean Green with three years of eligibility remaining.
UNT went 38-12 last year and 18-2 in conference play. They ended the regular season winning 18 straight league games. Head coach Rodney DeLong was named the 2021 Conference USA Coach of the Year. The Mean Green also earned Pitcher of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors. In total eight UNT softball student-athletes were voted all-conference. UNT was the No. 1 seed in the 2021 C-USA Tournament.

Peters, a native of Rock Island, Illinois, pitched her Rock Island High School to its first IHSA state title when she was a junior. A standout in high school, Peters was named the 2018 Dispatch-Argus Metro Player of the Year that season as she struck out 213 and walked just 13. As a senior she went 20-3 with 1.58 ERA and 184 strikeouts from the circle as she also led the team with a .533 batting average.
