Five Mean Green swimmers will take on Lone Star Lake in Kansas
DENTON, Texas — UNT Swimming and Diving will begin its season Friday as five student-athletes travel north to Lawrence, Kansas for the CSCAA Open Water National Championships. The 5K race will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Â
Jordan Gorham, Lexie Green, Karigan Stanley, Bryanna Vasquez and Izabela Zekuciova will be competing for the Mean Green. The race will consist of the equivalent of 100 lengths of an Olympic swimming pool in Lone Star Lake. Athletes are not allowed to wear any suit that will help them conserve body heat with the temperature Friday morning projected to be about 70°.
Â
All first-through-eighth place individuals will earn medals, and the top three competitors from each team will have their results combined for team scoring. The top three teams will also be recognized. Head coach Brittany Roth said this is an incredible way to open the season.
Â
"We are really excited to be part of the CSCAA Open Water National Championships! It's always a great opportunity to represent UNT on the national stage, and I'm excited for the team to race with some greasy, great competition," Roth said.
Mean Green swim and dive looks to continue 2021 where they left off in the 2020-21 season, posting a program-best finish at the Conference USA Championships.
