Marzilio Leading Coral Creek Club Invitational

PLACIDA, Fla. - Sophomore Vicente Marzilio holds a two-shot lead over the field heading into the final day of play at the Coral Creek Club Invitational on Tuesday after putting together an opening day of 68-67 on Monday while posting nine birdies and just one bogey in each of the two rounds. Marzilio is at 7-under par heading into Tuesday's final - two shots up on Florida Gulf Coast's Jon Hopkins and South Alabama's Mathias Lorentzen.
North Texas climbed four spots on the leaderboard in the second of the two rounds on Tuesday and put up two rounds of 287 and 286, respectively. The Mean Green enter Tuesday's final round two shots back of No. 38 North Florida for fourth place. They lead No. 40 Kent State by four shots, No. 27 South Florida by six shots and No. 18 Texas A&M by six.
"The team got off to a good start for the first 36 holes today," UNT head coach Brad Stracke said. "I feel good going into the last round tomorrow."
Aside from Marzilio's standout day, the Mean Green also got a clutch performance from fifth year Viktor Forslund, who shot a 71-70 and is 1-under for the tournament in a tie for 10th.
"Viktor had a great day and played a lot of good golf, along with the other guys," Stracke said. "Vicente played awesome all day and led our team to a solid day."
North Texas will be paired on Tuesday with Memphis, UCF and Kent State with a shotgun start set for 7:15 a.m. Marzilio will begin on the fifth hole.
