Softball: Evans and Worthington named to Preseason All-CUSA team

North Texas picked to finish second in preseason poll

DENTON, Texas – Senior infielder Tayla Evans and sophomore pitcher Janie Worthington were both selected to the 2022 Conference USA preseason all-conference team, the league announced Tuesday.

Evans received the honor for the second-straight season. She is a career .310 hitter with 23 doubles, 19 home runs and 82 RBI. The senior has played in 122 career games.

Worthington is a preseason honoree after earning first team All-CUSA and all-freshman accolades in 2021. The Carnegie, Okla. native posted a sparkling 9-1 record with a 1.99 ERA in 21 appearances (nine starts) in her first season in a UNT uniform.

Additionally, the Mean Green were picked second in the Conference USA preseason poll behind only Charlotte. UNT has won the last two CUSA regular season titles under fourth-year head coach Rodney Delong.

North Texas opens the 2022 regular season against Tulsa, Friday at 1 pm CT in Lake Charles, La.
