Softball Falls to UAB in Series Finale

BIRMINGHAM, AL – UNT softball fell on Saturday afternoon 2-1 at Mary Bowers Field to conclude the weekend. Despite the loss, Ashley Peters finished with another great outing in her third appearance of the weekend. The Mean Green clinched the series with two wins on Friday and jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before UAB took the lead later in the game.

Lexi Cobb led off with a double to center field to start the game for the Mean Green (30-13, 15-6). Three batters later, Kailey Gamble brought Cobb home to give North Texas a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Both defenses then settled in until the bottom of the fourth inning when UAB plated two runs to take the lead 2-1. The Blazers (22-23, 10-10) recorded three hits in the inning including an RBI double and a bunt to score the only runs of the game for UAB.
Peters (16-6) pitched a complete game and struck out five batters but was charged the loss. Peters held the Blazers to five hits and only two runs in another stellar outing.
Cobb led the Mean Green at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double and scored the only North Texas run.
Olivia Valbak (4-7) recorded the win for UAB and held North Texas to four hits in 5.0 innings pitched.
Jolie Readeaux finished 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI for the Blazers.

UNT will host Marshall May 6-8 at Lovelace Stadium for its final series of the season. First pitch will be at 6 PM CT on Friday, May 6 and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
