DENTON, TX – North Texas softball defeated Marshall 1-0 Friday evening at Lovelace Stadium to take the series opener. In only the second extra innings game of the year, the Mean Green walked it off in the bottom of the eighth inning in a hard-fought pitching duel between the two programs.

QUOTING HEAD COACH RODNEY DELONG
"Ashley (Peters) was excellent. Another good start, she's been good for the last three weeks. It's good to see her peaking right at the right time. She did great and it's a really good lineup she just pitched against. She gave us a chance."

RECAP- UNT 1, Marshall 0

Ashley Peters started the game for the Mean Green and pitched 6.0 exceptional innings as she held the Thundering Herd (32-15, 14-8) to three hits out of 20 batters on the evening. Peters struck out six batters before Skylar Savage (13-6) came into the scoreless game in the seventh inning. Savage finished the final two innings, allowing only two hits to pick up the win.

The Mean Green offense only recorded six hits through seven innings before Lexi Cobb reached base on an error to lead off the bottom of the eighth. Cobb advanced to second on a passed ball before Tayla Evans came to the plate two batters later. The senior infielder then slapped the game-winning hit to left field to bring Cobb home.

Cobb recorded three of the seven North Texas (31-13, 16-6) hits on the night and finished 3-for-4 with the game-winning run.

Evans came through when it mattered most and recorded her lone hit on the night to finish 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.

Sydney Nester (23-9) was charged the loss after pitching a complete game and striking out seven batters.

Saige Pye concluded the evening 2-for-4 to lead Marshall on offense.
