Softball Selected For Multiple Conference Awards

DALLAS, TX – Sophomore first baseman Kailey Gamble was voted first team All-Conference USA by the league's coaches to lead six overall UNT honorees, the league announced Tuesday.
Gamble led the team in home runs (15), RBI (49), total bases (100), and slugging percentage (.746). She racked up a total of 49 on the season, the second-best single season total in program history. Gamble enjoyed her best game of the season against UTSA when she finished a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, four RBI, one walk, and two home runs.
North Texas had three second-team all-conference selections in Lexi Cobb, Skylar Savage, and Ashley Peters. Cobb led the team with a .385 batting average for the season and started 42 games for the Mean Green. The sophomore outfielder also led the team in on-base percentage (.467) and hits (50).
Savage led Conference USA with six saves, which also ranked second nationally. She finished with a 13-7 regular season record and pitched a team-leading eight complete games. The freshman pitched a no-hitter against Charlotte in a 1-0 win on March 25.
Peters led the Mean Green pitching staff in ERA (2.52), wins (17), innings pitched (147.0), and strikeouts (141). She finished third in Conference USA with 141 strikeouts on the season. Peters won Conference USA Pitcher of the Week twice this season, including the final week of the regular season.
UNT had two first-year players earn all-freshmen honors as Savage and Cierra Simon both were named to the list. Simon started all 46 games for UNT and led the team with 17 stolen bases. The freshman batted .250 with 31 runs scored and 19 RBI.
Cobb and outfielder Kalei Christensen were both named to the Conference USA All-Academic team. To be eligible for nomination for the All-Academic team, student-athletes had to have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, be at least a sophomore in standing while competing in 60% of team games as a starter or key reserve.
Christensen finished with a 3.94 GPA last semester and made the 2022 C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll while pursuing her bachelor's degree in Audiology and Speech/Language Pathology. She also was awarded the 2022 C-USA Academic Medal. Christensen led the team with 34 runs and hit 10 home runs with 44 RBI.
Cobb finished with a 4.00 GPA last semester and made the 2022 C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll while pursuing her bachelor's degree in Computer Science. She received the 2022 C-USA Academic Medal.
North Texas' postseason run will begin on Thursday, May 12 at Lovelace Stadium, as the Mean Green host the 2022 Conference USA Softball Championship. The Mean Green earned a double-bye into the double elimination portion of the tournament after earning the No. 2 seed.
