DENTON — The (RV) UNT soccer team is set to host Tulsa Thursday night at the Mean Green Soccer Complex aiming to secure its 29th consecutive winning season.
Thursday's match will be broadcast on ESPN+ and first kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
North Texas (8-2-0, 2-1-0) is in its 29th season as a program. Every season since its inception in 1995 UNT has been led by head coach John Hedlund and every season the Mean Green have won more games than they have lost. Only North Carolina has a longer active streak in DI women's soccer.
Thursday, UNT can secure its 29th consecutive winning season with a victory over the Golden Hurricanes (3-6-3, 1-0-2) who are making their first trip to Denton in over two decades. Furthermore, a win over Tulsa for North Texas can give the 16-time conference champions some breathing room in the league standings as Tulsa enters the contest right on their tails just one point behind.
The Mean Green are coming off a 2-0 road win at UTSA last Thursday. It was their seventh shutout win in just their 10th match of the year. They had seven shutouts all of last season.
They return home Thursday riding a seven-match home unbeaten streak and a four-match winning streak over Tulsa that dates back to 1997. However, the Golden Hurricanes have started to find their stride as of late. Tulsa comes to Denton on a six-match unbeaten streak and has not lost a match in over a month. On Sept. 21, Tulsa went to SMU who is ranked in the top 60 of the NCAA's RPI ranking and shutout the Mustangs in Dallas.
North Texas will aim to keep its scoring up and early. They are on a 19-match unbeaten streak when scoring first.
After Thursday's contest with Tulsa the Mean Green head to Florida for a pair of road league matches. They'll first travel to South Florida on Oct. 12 and then Florida Atlantic on Oct. 15.
