Volleyball Drops Rice on Saturday

The win moved UNT into third place in The American
DENTON, Texas – UNT volleyball captured its second straight 3-2 win over Rice on Saturday at the North Texas Volleyball Center. The Mean Green have won six of its last seven matches and moved into third place in the American Athletic Conference.
"Picking up two really big wins against a very good Rice team is phenomenal," head coach Kristee Porter said. "I can't be prouder of [the team] and how they fought all weekend."
North Texas (16-12, 10-5) extended its historic streak of double-digit blocks to 10 matches with a season-high mark of 16.0 in the five-set thriller (25-22, 23-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-7) on Saturday. The Mean Green held the Owls (17-8, 11-4) to a .183 attack percentage while it accumulated a .280 mark with a season-high 69 team kills.
Aryn Johnson led the attack with 16 kills on 41 attacks with six digs and three blocks. In her UNT career, Johnson has collected 60 kills over four matches against Rice.
Anyse Smith finished with 14 kills on 25 attacks with a .360 hitting percentage while Treyaunna Rush tallied 13 kills on 31 attacks. Smith recorded four blocks and Rush collected five blocks with two solo stops.
Sh'Diamond Holly held her lead atop The American hitting percentage leaderboard after she registered a .500 mark with 10 kills on 18 attacks. For the season, Holly is hitting at a .415 clip which would rank fifth in single-season history for the American Athletic Conference.
Defensively, Holly and fellow middle blocker Truli Levy led with seven blocks apiece while Aleeyah Galdeira posted 19 digs.
Victoria Fontenot set new season-high marks with 10 digs and three service aces.
Ceci Harness distributed 32 assists while Kamryn Scroggins tallied her sixth double-double of the season with 24 assists and 10 digs. The pair have both reached double-digit assists in 27 of 29 matches this season.
