DENTON, Texas – Senior Jaaucklyn Moore surpassed 1,000 career points in UNT's 83-60 win over Grambling State on Thursday inside The Super Pit.
A transfer from Incarnate Word, who is in her second season with the Mean Green, Moore needed 22 points to reach the milestone entering the contest. Seventeen first half points, including four 3-pointers inched her closer before she hit the mark on a breakaway layup in the third quarter.
"It feels good, of course," Moore said. "In the game I wasn't really thinking about it because you're just going with the flow and taking what shots come to you without forcing anything. I've been playing basketball for over 10 years, so knowing from where I started at to where I am now it feels great."
Moore led all scorers in the game with 24 points and is the first UNT player to score more than 20 points in a game this season.
DesiRay Kernal added 18 points for the Mean Green in addition to 11 rebounds marking her first double-double at North Texas. The Texas A&M-Commerce transfer converted 13-of-16 free throws, which is the most made free throws in a game for UNT since Denetra Kellum's 14 in 2011.
The Mean Green defense showed up again forcing 29 turnovers and holding Grambling State to 24% from the field.
Led by Moore, the Mean Green jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter that included a 9-0 run. Grambling continued to battle back and close the gap in the first half, but a technical foul on the Lady Tigers led to a 16-0 run for UNT that spanned over five minutes before halftime. From there North Texas held a comfortable lead for the remainder of the game with the largest lead growing to 27 points at 79-52.
UNT will hit the road for the first time this season to take on SEC-opponent Texas A&M in College Station on Sunday.

Thoughts on the game:
"I thought we did a great job of following the game plan. It is the first time we had to focus on the scout. When you look at the early game you don't have a lot of film, so you're focusing on yourself. I thought we did a great job of knowing who the shooters were and knowing who the drivers were. The main thing for us is to cut down the turnovers and block out somebody."
