The loss snaps an eight-game win streak for the Mean Green
BOZEMAN, Mont. – The UNT women's basketball team had its streak of eight consecutive wins broken in a 71-58 loss to Montana State Thursday night.
North Texas was looking to set a program record with nine consecutive wins and end its nonconference schedule with an 11-1 record, but the Bobcats spoiled the night. Katelynn Limardo led Montana State with a season-high 25 points. Limbardo went 5-of-9 from 3-point range and 7-of-11 from the field overall.
Tommisha Lampkin was the leading scorer for the Mean Green with 18 points, while Desiree Wooten set a new career high with 14 points. DesiRay Kernal was the third Mean Green in double figures with 12 points.
Limardo and the Bobcats came out and took an early 13-3 lead behind four 3-pointers in the first quarter. Trailing by eight going into the second quarter, the Mean Green defense would keep them within striking range. North Texas would hold Montana State scoreless for the final 6:26 of the half, while going on a 6-0 run of its own to cut the deficit to four going into halftime. In the quarter, the Bobcats shot 12.5% from the field overall and were 2-of-11 from 3-point range after a 4-of-7 mark in the opening quarter.
Coming out of the half, UNT tied the game at 30 at the 7:09 mark in the third quarter. However, the Bobcats had a response every time North Texas would close the gap and would take a 47-40 lead into the fourth quarter.
After the Bobcats built up its largest lead of the game at 55-42 with 8:10 left to go, UNT would battle back to cut the deficit down to four points. The next Montana State possession, Marah Dykstra would convert a 3-point play to spark an 11-2 run that put the game away.
North Texas will open conference play for the first time in the American Athletic Conference Dec. 30 at Charlotte. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CT from Halton Arena. All AAC games will be broadcasted on ESPN+.

Thoughts on the game:
"There's a lot of things that didn't necessarily go our way or that we didn't execute. You look at the free throws and we were 59%, but still shot 22 free throws on the road, which was enough to win the game. We have to stay connected. I thought today was a day we weren't that."
