RUSTON, Louisiana — Riding a league-leading six-game winning streak, the UNT men's basketball team is at Louisiana Tech Thursday for what is almost certain to be a closely contested game.
Thursday's game is scheduled to tip at 6 p.m. CT from the Tomas Assembly Center in Ruston, Louisiana, and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield on The Varsity Network app.
In eight of the last nine meetings between North Texas (21-5, 12-3) and LA Tech (13-12, 6-8) the game was decided by two possessions or less. Four times a team won on a game-winning shot, including earlier this year when Kai Huntsberry sank a go-ahead jumper in the final seconds to win, 67-65, at the Super Pit.
Huntsberry's game winner erased an 18-point second half comeback by LA Tech.
Over the last decade, the Bulldogs have lost just 18 total times at home. UNT heads into Thursday's contest having won two straight at LA Tech. Both wins came on game-winning shots in the final seconds. Last year in Ruston, the Mean Green made a 17-point second half comeback to beat the Bulldogs and needed a Tylor Perry 3-pointer with 4.9 seconds remaining to complete the comeback and win, 63-62.
If North Texas can defeat LA Tech on Thursday, they'll be the only road team over the last 10 years with three wins at the TAC.
North Texas has the nation's best road winning percentage (.842) since the start of last year.
Following Thursday's game at Louisiana Tech, the Mean Green travel to UTEP on Saturday for a 8 p.m. CT tip from El Paso. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield on the Varsity Network app.
