Softball Shuts Out Tarleton in Wednesday Win

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Saleen Donohoe hit her third home run of the season as UNT softball captured a 6-0 victory over Tarleton on Wednesday at the Tarleton Softball Complex.
The win improves the Mean Green to an 8-2 record for the season, matching the best ten-game record in program history. The mark was established in head coach Rodney DeLong's first season, 2019, and subsequently matched in 2020 and 2022.

UNT opens its home schedule at the North Texas Invitational on Saturday at Lovelace Stadium against Wichita State at 1:30 p.m. The Mean Green will then face Northwestern State at 4 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets HERE.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. TARLETON
- Donohoe opened the scoring for the Mean Green with a three-run home run in the top of the first after Lexi Cobb and Molly Rainey reached on a leadoff single and walk, respectively.
- Before the end of the first, Cierra Simon collected two RBI on a bloop single to score Kalei Christensen and Mikayla Smith and give North Texas a 5-0 lead.
- In the top of the second, Smith converted a bases-loaded opportunity with an RBI walk to give UNT a 6-0 advantage.
- Starter McKenzie Wagoner caught a sharp line drive for the first out of the third inning to help maintain her clean outing.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Mackenzie Childers entered the circle in relief of Wagoner in a planned staff game.
- Tatum Sparks fired a lined single into right field, advancing to third on a fielding error with one out in the top of the fifth inning. The Mean Green offense was unable to score the runner but held a 6-0 lead.
- Childers retired the side in order during the home half of the fifth, collecting a pair of strikeouts to open the frame.
- Skylar Savage finished the game in the circle for UNT, collecting three groundouts to complete the combined shutout.
NOTES
- North Texas tallied its fifth shutout of the season on Wednesday and are on pace to best the single season mark of 12 shutouts from 2021. The fifth shutout of the record-breaking season did not come until March 11, 2021, in a 10-0 win over Omaha.
- The Mean Green pitching staff entered the game with a 1.09 combined ERA which was fifth in the nation. After Wednesday's win, the mark now sits at 0.97.
