DENTON – UNT softball opens a three-game Conference USA series against UAB at Lovelace Stadium on Friday at 6 p.m. All games will be broadcast on ESPN+ and tickets are available HERE.
North Texas (19-14, 5-4) enters the weekend after a narrow 3-2 loss at UT Arlington on Wednesday in which Kailey Gamble collected her 13th home run of the season. UAB (17-16, 5-4) owns a four-game winning streak with a home sweep of FIU last weekend.
Gamble is sixth in the nation and leads the conference with 13 home runs. She paces the Mean Green with a .360 batting average, .843 slugging percentage, .455 on-base percentage, 75 total bases, 33 RBI and 24 runs.
Ashley Peters has recorded 58 strikeouts and seven walks over 64.1 innings pitched this season. She is first in C-USA with a 8.29 strikeout-to-walk ratio and ranks 12th in the country with the mark.
Head coach Rodney DeLong enters the league series with 148 career wins at UNT and holds a .692 winning percentage.
North Texas trails UAB 11-15 in the all-time series but holds a 7-3 advantage in regular season matchups since DeLong's first season in 2019. Over this period, neither team has scored more than six runs in a game and seven of the 10 meetings have been decided by two runs or less.
Both schools are set to join the American Athletic Conference next season and will be joined by fellow C-USA members Charlotte, Florida Atlantic and UTSA.
