DALLAS – Mikayla Smith won Conference USA Player of the Week honors after she led UNT softball to a series victory over Charlotte, the league announced on Monday.
Smith finished the weekend with a .375 batting average, four RBI, two runs scored with a home run. She produced runs with each of her three hits in the series including a two-run double on Sunday which vaulted the Mean Green to a 6-2 win.
She opened the series with a solo home run on Friday and followed with an RBI single in the first inning on Saturday. Smith also drew a two-out walk in the seventh inning to extend Saturday's game for an eventual walk-off hit from McKenzie Wagoner.
This is the first C-USA award of Smith's career, and she is the second North Texas player to win this season after Kalei Christensen was honored on March 20. Smith is the fourth UNT player to be recognized for a weekly award alongside Christensen and conference pitcher of the week winners Ashley Peters and McKenzie Wagoner on Feb. 13 and March 13, respectively.
The Mean Green visit Missouri at Mizzou Softball Stadium beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. CT in Colombia, Missouri with streaming coverage on SEC Network Plus.
