Men's Golf Entering Final Round in Contention

TEXARKANA, Ark. - The UNT men's golf team continued play Tuesday at the Conference USA Championship at Texarkana Country Club and enter Wednesday's final round of stroke play in fifth place - one shot back of fourth-place UAB and the cutoff line for teams to qualify for match play after Wednesday's round is complete.
Graduate Lenny Bergsson led the way for the Mean Green after being subbed into the lineup prior to the second round by head coach Brad Stracke. Bergsson shot a 3-under 69 - a score that has only been carded three other times in the tournament so far and the low score of the event. Junior Tucker Allen shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday and is now at 2-over for the tournament in a tie for fourth place, while junior Vicente Marzilio rounds out the Mean Green golfers in the top-15 after his 76 on Tuesday as him tied for 11th going to the final round at 3-over for the event.
The Mean Green are at 13-over par in fifth behind UAB at 12-over and Charlotte and Louisiana Tech, who are tied for second, at 7-over. Middle Tennessee leads the way going to Wednesday's final round at 4-over. UNT is four shots clear of sixth-place FAU (+17).
The top four teams after Wednesday's final round of stroke play will advance to the match play portion of the tournament set for Thursday, when semifinals will take place in the morning before the championship match Thursday afternoon.
UNT will be paired with FAU and will tee off beginning at 8 a.m., on Wednesday. Fans can follow the event live on Golfstat and follow the program throughout the year on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
